We are well into an era where community planning and climate change are inseparable. On November 21, Dr. Cameron Wake,a nationally known climate scientist led a public dialogue on what lies ahead. Dr. Wake addressed climate past, present and future; extreme weather becoming more common; and what York County will look and feel like in 2050. Dr. Wake provided detailed insight into the scientists current understanding of climate change, and we can expect an increased rate of change in the coming years.
Despite the complexity of the topic, Dr. Wake distilled his message into five concise climate change take-aways:
- It’s real.
- It’s us.
- Scientists agree.
- It’s bad.
- We can fix it.
A public dialogue followed. The event was well attended, as the meeting room at the Fire Station was filled close to capacity.

Dr. Wake’s 6:30 PM talk was preceded at 6 PM by a presentation by the Town’s planning consultants Liz Durfee and Tom Morgan on the fundamentals of a comprehensive plan, what it is, and why it is important to Kennebunkport’s future.
