Participants engaged in a facilitated activity designed to collect information on Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) in key planning areas such as housing, transportation, the protection of natural and cultural resources, waterfront access, infrastructure, tourism, and the local economy. This ‘creative brainstorming’ activity has been shown to be an effective strategy to engage the public in small group discussions that provide valuable information in an organized and interactive format. Information compiled during the 2-hour SWOT workshop was then incorporated into the plan and used to develop the plan’s Vision & Community Character chapter.
