Dr. Jayne Knott, a research scientist at the University of Massachusetts Boston, led a community discussion on her work examining the impact of sea level rise (SLR) on groundwater. SLR will force upward movement in the water table, even at locations several miles inland from the sea. This has widespread implications such as suitability of land for future development, drinking water supplies, threats to water quality associated with septic systems and hazardous substances, and the viability of roads.
